RE: Where to Camp Glamis
I went out side to tape them all up and almost stepped on a baby rattler that then chased me 30 or so feet...... So of corse I had to still tape up the windows. Swatting away bugs fending of the snake and his 3 buddies with my 40cal in one hand, flash light in my mouth (bugs could get in my moth thru the corners around my light) and tape in the other, Looking around for the now 4 rattle snakes, under the rig and under the quads.
Sidewinders?? I have only seen 1 snake out there in like 25 years.
Glad you had a great time
RE: Bass Pro Shop to open Oct 16 in Manteca, CA
DON'T go on opening weekend!!
If its like the Rancho Cucamonga store opening, we had to park about a mile away and walk, ended up NOT buying anything cause of the long lines at checkout.
Went back about 2 weeks later, MUCH better.
RE: Those poor Bluehairs
I will bring D W's I-Pod, chock full of Barbara Strisand, Barry Manilow, Celine Dion, etc. Guaranteed to please everyone!!!:R
That would strain the limits of even those nasty toy hauling people!
Strains the limits of ME :E
Did I mention The Carpenters and Josh Groban, I had to go look at Her CD's, I try NOT to remember all of those names.
RE: A big thank you for great Service
I had this happen to my trailer a while back and just never got to it. Well during my last visit to the RV shop, I asked about fixing and after a quote that was right on and much kess than the day it would have taken me to fix it. The Folks at Benlo RV fixed up trailer better than new.. In fact I want to now take it back for them to fix the other 3 corners, that just look nasty from the factory...
While I was there, I asked about a short hose from the pump to the feed line. Tom at Benlo RV and installed it for free... Wow, I don't get stuff for free..
WOW, My Father used to go there for many years, from the late 60's until he moved North.
Had alot of work done there on his Camper and T T.
Good to know a good honest place is still around!!
RE: If something should happen to me....
What?!?!?!?! By me making a list to possibly help those great people who would be helping me and my family in a possible time of need some how triggers NEGATIVE posts from not one, but more people?!! Now I have to worry about Your fathers last breath and that I am alienating people? :@ Some of You people can please keep your personal thoughts and moral beliefs out of this post. I don't think I asked for them.
The "Joys" of the internet, someone will almost always chime in with some BS post :(
RE: If something should happen to me....
Thanks for the list, I have been meaning to do something like that.
DW knows most of the things to do, One of my Sons is usually with us and could help.
I just need to get her to learn to drive the Rig, even if its to a local storage yard for temporary parking.
Our "Issue" is the driveway and related fence/gates, pain in the Butt!!
I do occasionally race Desert and Ride Dual Sport events and all of the groups I hang out with are GREAT PEOPLE and will help as needed.
RE: Service
Absolutely pull the tires/wheels, Repack/inspect the bearings, check and adjust the brakes, look over the tires very carefully and look for cracks and deformed sidewalls.
I forgot to mantion, I found 1 separated tire and another questionable tire while they were off, better view!!
I also found 2 broken springs on the brake adjusters, one jammed between the shoe and drums wearing a nice little groove in them.
Its called Preventitive Maintenance, find little problems before they become big problems.
We also did well for a few years on 2 12V batteries, when they acted up, I switched over to the 6 ers
good luck

RE: 2500HD(gas) vs. 2500HD(diesel)
no comparison on grades. I had to always be ready for the super 2 gear down shift with my gas truck when pulling a tuff hill, and always watch my temps..
I know that feeling, start up a tough grade, give Her a little more throttle, wham, 2nd gear at 5K RPM!! I softened the blow a little by pulling in 3rd gear when I knew there was a hill coming up and by messing with the shift points with the programmer.
RE: Where to Camp Glamis
I am getting pretty excited, I leave tomorrow morning.. I am a bit concerned about the forecast of 105 for the hole time we are there, but I guess this is why we have AC. With a new baby that geni is going to run day and night..
I just put in 4 point harnesses in the new Rhino and after trying them out I with I would have gotten 5 point. The lap belt rides up pretty high when tightening the shoulders. I guess I will just have to add the 5th later..
Thank you all for your help. I think I am going to check out the Flats behind the store just after Gecko that SteveT777 mentioned and if that don't look good off to the washes..
Broc2
I SECOND the idea of the 5 point harnesses, thats what We run.
I think the "Flats' your talking about are a little farther down the Hwy than "Just past Gecko" but you should be fine with that. actually you will pass Osbourne Lookout before you get to the "Flats".
Good Luck, we will be in Ridgecrest this weekend, going to be warm there also!!
RE: Stop-Leak for small radiator seap
We use Barrs in many vehicals in Our fleet, especially older trucks that are being considered for retirement. Never had any porblems with it, even when the truck did NOT get retired as planned.
I once used "silver seal" in a Nissan with a blown head gasket.
Was 1000 miles from home in Oregon and mid Summer, we made it home and drove it for a long time bfore I could get the repairs done.
RE: 2500HD(gas) vs. 2500HD(diesel)
I'm going to try and make this short, and appreciate any input as I'm far from expert with trucks or 5ers. I'm driving a '02 1500HD, 6.0L V8 and pulling a 25ft 5er. Having no problems, but I haven't gone west from Illinois either. My questions come from reviewing newer trucks. Deals are out there right now on both gas and diesel. I really can't afford to buy a diesel, and I'm considering holding on to my truck.
The wife and I do think we will want to upgrade campers in the next 2 years to a 30-32ft 5er. I'm wondering if a 2500HD gas will pull that much of a camper through the mountains?
From someone who just made the switch from an 04 Gasser to an 08 Diesel. Both 2500HD CC 4X4's. Old truck had 4.10's but with the larger tires more like 3.70's, the new rig 3.73's
Our Gasser never failed us, (with a 9K T H), but the gas mileage was terrible. I pulled the rig up some of the steepest roads in Calif.
I have yet to tow with the new T V, but tommorrow will be the maiden run, so I can't say how much better fuel mileage will be.
If your going to a longer/heavier rig, I would go Diesel.
JMHO
RE: Little DPF insight
One thing that does make sense though is that perhaps the designers expected their diesels to driven longer and harder than they actually are.
FYI
One thing I know for sure, they were NOT ment for around town use.
I work in a large city fleet, the DPF's are a giant headache.
Refuse trucks barely make it thru the day without clogging up.
Other trucks with PTO driven accesories have problems also, they idle for long periods of time while using the compressors, cranes, etc.
Some of the DPF's we have are electric, you use the truck all day, and plug it in at night to regen. Most of the units we have do not have onboard systems to regen, they need to be romoved and manually heated and cleaned, a major pain!! The newer diesels with electronic fuel systems are much better about NOT clogging things up.
Off road equipment is next, they want to retrofit tractors, construction equipment, etc with DPF's. Government fleets get the DPF's first, then it trickles down to everyone else.
From what I see, the retrofit systems cause the most trouble, as the engine was not designed for it
Like catalytic converters on Gas vehicals, they will improve with time.
DMax oil pressure
What is "Normal" oil pressure for an 08 DMax??
Mine seems like it is low, but She is new and I really don't know for sure.
About 60PSI when cold and for a few minutes until She warms up to 210*
Then 35-40PSI at idle and back to 60 if the engine is reved up.
Is this normal??
RE: Little DPF insight
The Urea is another "pipe Dream"
Using animal (Cow) urine to inject into the DPF during Regen instead of fuel. Supposed to lower ground pollution by collecting the animal waste and then burning it and spewing it into the air!!
RE: Duramax Power Loss
I am new to the Dmax arena, but have alot of experience with light/med/heavy, Gas, CNG and Diesel trucks from work.
If it was in "Limp Mode" there would have been a CEL and message on the DIC.
Also there would have been a code stored in memory, which the dealer could view with a scan tool. All of the vehicals I have worked on have memory in the ECM and store some history.
Good Luck
